Our First Delaroche
The family research that was done on our family began quite a few years ago. My Late Aunt dedicated alot of time of her life to leave a legacy for all our family members. I am sure that all information that is shared as well as any new information from any family members that could posibly find a link through us or through you would make have made her so very proud. So with that mentioned I would like to dedicate this Gen Forum site to Mrs.Francis May LaRoche Pechacek. Our First Delaroche family member came from Alsace,Lorriane,France in the year 1837. His name was Constant Daniel Delaroche. He was born in 1816 .
Constant had travel all over France, had visited Spain,Portugal and Newfoundland. He could speak a little of each language including English, but French was his native tounge. He had heard so much about America and its oppertunities that he decided to come to America.
In the year 1837 young Constant Daniel Delaroche stowed away on a ship name "Rhone" . He remained in hiding until the ship was well out to sea .He then came out of hiding and mingled with the ships crew.
On this voyage to America he met and fell in love with a young lady. Family recordings have her listed as Elizabeth Cunhalt .She was from Berlin (Germany)Prussia. She too was traveling to America.
So most have found out traveling alone by a lady was prohibited by law so she had to have been traveling with someone or have had some sort of sponcer on this voyage.
Another thing while doing my own research I have found that upon landing in America many original names were lost through translation. I have never found any records on Miss Cunhalt and I believe for a few reasons this has happened.
First of all the spelling of both Elizabeth and the surname Cunhalt are not German spellings. These names had to have misspelled through translation during entry.
I will add more information in the future.
