DeMarcus family DeMarcus Alexander
I note the southern families!I have VA/South Carolina relations but not on this possible line.
I have a Maria Swartwout who married a De Marcus Alexander who was born in 1810 (and who used the initials D.M. as if it were two names).
They married 15 Feb 1832 and had 10 children, one of whom was my gr gr grandmother Elizabeth Alexander Clarke, born 1843.The family continued to use Marcus as a male middle name as if it may have been originally a family name.
But DeMarcus Alexander seems to have been born in Vermont.
And the Swartwouts were from Penn and NY and the Clarkes from Connecticutt.Any possible connection?
Does anyone know the derivation of the name --I see Marquis mentioned as if it were French. How is it pronounced?
The same family also named boys Lafayette but I think that was a fad of the time.
