Earl Gray DeMont
Earl G. DeMONT, 91, R.R. 1, Argos, died at 6:40 p.m. Monday in Parkview hospital, Plymouth, after a four-week illness.Mr. DeMont was born Jan. 5, 1888, in Rochester to George and Suzanne GRAY DeMONT.He had lived in Argos 50 years after moving from Logansport.He was married to Alta JORDAN on Dec. 16, 1911, in Culver; she died Aug. 28, 1956.He married Mabel BEST on Oct. 10, 1959, in Goshen; she survives.He was a retired farmer and a member of the former Gilead United Methodist church.
Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. Nellie MILLER, Port Huron, Mich., and Mrs. Bruce (Mary) McCRACKEN, Lancaster, Pa.; two sons, George DeMONT, R.R. 5, Plymouth, and Norman “Porky” DeMONT, Argos; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren, and a step-son, Lyle W. BEST, Atwood.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Grossman funeral home, Argos, with the Rev. Arley MITCHEM officiating.Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery.Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and until the services Thursday.

Nellie M. Miller
Nellie M. Miller, 88, of Port Huron passed away Tuesday,
Sept. 11, 2001.
She was born Oct. 11, 1912, in Culver, Ind., to Earl G. and
Alta DeMont.
On Nov. 4, 1934, she married Paul A. Miller. He died May 6,
1959.
Nellie was known to her friends and relatives for her love of
recipes, cooking and puzzle books. She put her love for
cooking to work as a cook at Port Huron Hospital, from
where she retired. She also enjoyed catalog shopping.
She is survived by two daughters, Marcia J. (Hank) Saph of
Spurger, Texas, and Patricia A. (Dennis) Minock of Kimball
Township; one son, Robert L. (Ruth) Miller of Port Huron;
eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, one sister,
Mary McCracken of Indiana-polis; two sisters-in-law,
Dorothy DeMont of Warsaw, Ind., and June DeMont of
Argos, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters
and one grandson.
The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2001,
in Smith Family Funeral Home- North, 1525 Hancock St.
The Rev. Robert P. Trask, pastor of Grace Episcopal
Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Acacia Park Cemetery, Beverly Hills,
Mich.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Contributions in Nellie's memory may be made to the
American Heart Association or the St. Clair County Council
on Aging.

George B. DeMont
Jan. 13, 1917 - Oct. 31, 2000
George B. DeMONT, 83, Plymouth, died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth.
Born to Earl G. and Alta Carrie JORDON DeMONT in Rochester, he married Dorothy M. FURRY April 28, 1940 in Plymouth. She survives.
Mr. DeMont was a teacher, trustee and superintendent of Trinity United Methodist Church, Plymouth. He retired in 1974, after 33 years as a NIPSCO electrician. He earned three Bronze Stars as a U.S. Marine during World War II campaigns in Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, the Marianas and Japan. He was a Corporal in C Company, 6th Battalion, V.A.C. He was a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed golfing in the NIPSCO league. He pitched softball for the Coca Cola team and pitched against the World's Champion Softball team in a game with the Plymouth All-Stars in 1938. He pitched the United Brethren School team to a tie for first place in the B League in 1940 and 1941. He enjoyed gardening, friends and family.
Surviving with his wife, of Plymouth, are two sons, Edwin G. [DeMONT] and wife Sharon, Plymouth; D. Eugene [DeMONT] and wife Margo, Plymouth; one daughter, Suzanne R. UMBAUGH and husband Mark, Argos; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; Gwen CALVERT; Jennifer KINGSTON; Brandon [DeMONT], Michael [DeMONT], Daniel [DeMONT] and Christopher DeMONT; Jeffrey [UMBAUGH], Jeremy [UMBAUGH] and Joshua UMBAUGH; two sisters, Nellie MILLER, Port Huron, Mich.; Mary McCRACKEN, Indianapolis.
Preceding in death were his parents, two brothers, Norman [DeMONT] and Wayne [DeMONT], three infant siblings and one half-sister, Velma CARPENTER.
Services are at 10 a.m. Friday at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, with Rev. Maurice C. GRINDLE officiating. Military graveside services are at New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Plymouth Youth Softball League, the Parkinson's Foundation or Alzheimer's Foundation.

Norman D. DeMont
Aug. 24, 1924 - Feb. 10, 2000
Norman D."Porky" DeMONT, 75, Argos, died 1:05 p.m. Thursday at Valley Lutheran Hospital, Mesa, Ariz.
Born in Argos to Earl and Alta JORDAN DeMONT, he married June ROBINSON on May 14, 1948 in Argos. She survives.
Mr. [DeMont] was an employee of Studebaker Corp., a cement mason and a general contractor in Argos. A World War II U.S. Marine veteran, he was a member of Argos American Legion Post 68. He enjoyed wintering in Apache Junction, Ariz.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary and husband Bruce McCRACKEN, Indianapolis, and Nellie MILLER, Port Huron, Mich.; one brother, George and wife Dorothy DeMONT, Plymouth, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Marshall Conty Humane Society.

ULYSSES CARLIN JORDON
Ulysses Carlin JORDON, aged 75, who resided on a farm two miles south of Leiters Ford died Monday morning after an illness of one month due to heart trouble.
The deceased had resided in the Leiters Ford community for nine years moving there from South Bend. He was a farmer and was born in Seneca county, Ohio on December 16, 1863.
He was the son of Jonathan and Lavina JORDON of Tiffin, Ohio. His wife who was Charlotte Ann SHRIVER whom he married at Green Springs, Ohio on April 29, 1888 preceded him in death.
Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Alta DeMONT, Argos, Miss Mary JORDON, and Mrs. Lillian WALTERS, South Bend, Mrs. Maggie SPENCER, Monterey and Mrs. Agnes FECHNER, Culver; four sons, Ralph [JORDON], Harry [JORDON] and Elmer JORDON of South Bend and James JORDON, Fort Wayne; and three sisters, Mrs. Allie SHRIVER and Mrs. Nora HARPSTER, both of Leiters Ford and Mrs. Clara BIDDINGER of Galconda, Ill.
The funeral services will be held from the Jordon farm home at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. John WALTON officiating. Burial will be made in the Zion cemetery near Culver.
