Sally Sarah Denico Vassalboro
I am so excited that I can be the first to use the Denico genforum that I am posting from work without my notes with me.Therefore, I do not have the exact dates with me.But, I am looking for a Sally or Sarah Denico, married as the second wife (and second Sally Sarah) to William Bragg from Vassalboro in the late 1700's or very early 1800's.
They had a large family of children including my gg grandfather Jefferson Bragg.Alonzo Bragg was a brother of Jefferson and he settled in the Clifton area as a surveyor. My grandfather settled in the Acton/Shapleigh area where he was a storekeeper and farmer. However, my family tradition has it (as well as Alonzo's descendants from the other side of the state) that they are of Native American descent which leads me to think that perhaps Sally-Sarah was NA.I suppose William's mother could have been NA as well since she was Mrs. Lydia Brann when she married Joab Bragg, a Revolutionary soldier who settled in Vassalboro after the War originally hailing from Mass.
I find it curious that I can not find a gravesite for this second wife. The first wife Sarh "Sally" is buried with other family members including Joab Bragg in a small cemetery near the mill in Vassalboro .William is buried in the Cemetery Street cemetery but there is no mention of a wife on his stone.I found no other stone for her either which is not to say that I didn't miss it or that she was buried with/near the first wife and her stone has been vandalized as are other stones in that cemetery. But any info would be appreciated.I am especially interested in the NA connection. After these several generations have passed the NA features and characteristics are still obvious! So any info on the Denicos or Braggs or life in Vassalboro or Native Americans from that time frame in and about Vassalboro would be wonderful.THanks so much for your thoughts.Sheila Chretien
PS Thank you Genealogy.com for listening and giving us the Denico Family Forum!!
