Hello Linda,
It's been over a year since I've managed to reply to this (don't ask...), but I believe that you might be right about this link.If so, by looking into it, the likely candidate for my Grandad's dad would be Richard George Denley - son of John Vincent Denley. The only reason why this is, is mainly because the age is right, and I also know that my grandad's dad was a Commander in the RN.As Richard is the only son of John Vincent associated with the RN - being a Ship's Corporal (1st Class) in the 1901 census. My grandad was born in 1909.
Is there any more information you can give on this? And please excuse the rather lengthy delay in replying!!!
Thanks
Paul.
