HELP, please - ? Denman abt 1827
My family has been stumped for far too long. Our ancestor, Daniel Burks was born abt 1820-22 in either LA or MS. He married a girl, supposedly a Denman, but her first name shows up with numerous conflicting spellings - most common has been Luandy, Laurendy, and Lurendy. But you can also throw in Dorinda, Luand, Lucinda, etc, etc. She was reportedly born about 1827 in either MS or IL, depending on the source. She and Daniel had 10 children, one of which is my great-grandmother. It is speculated that census takers may have phonetically spelled her name their way after hearing her pronounce it, proably with a strong Southern accent. After hours of reading Denman files, I'm confident that one of you has Daniel Burks (1822-1895) in your line somewhere, and can finally identify his wife. Thanks for your time and your help.
