de Ryk/ de Rijk family - Den Haag, Hilversum, Laren, Bussum
I am researching a family of de Rijks (to use the original Dutch spelling) from The Hague (Den Haag) and whose earlier generations were from around Hilversum, Laren and Bussum, just east of Amsterdam in Holland.
I have traced our family back to the early 1700s to an individual called Jacob de Rijk, a soldier, catholic, living in Hilversum and whose son Willem Jacobszen de Rijk moved to Laren and later married Marijtje van Kampen or van Kempen in 1773.
More importantly, I am interested in establishing contact with an American family who were in Holland in about 2003 attempting to trace their ancestry and who visited the Delft archive asking for information.I have reason to believe that they may have been searching for information relating to my grandfather, Johannes Daniel de Rijk, also known as John Derrick who was last known of (by us) when he was working as a waiter in New York in 1930.We believe he may have had another family in the U.S. after his marriage to my grandmother ended.
My father, now 85, was not quite 2 when he last saw his father and has spent his life wondering what happened to him after leaving for America in the mid-1920s.
Can anyone help?
