I think I found Denyse on a passenger ship list:

Seattle Passenger and Crew Lists, 1882-1957 about Denyse R Porteous
Name:        Denyse R Porteous
Arrival Date:        12 May 1921
Age:        62
Estimated Birth Year:        abt 1859
Race/Nationality:        France
Ship Name:        Tunisian
Port of Arrival:        Seattle, Washington
Other Possible Ports:        Vancouver, British Columbia
Line:        1
Microfilm Roll Number:        M1365_5

I found a newspaper article about a trial over money, Denyse being sued by Clara Bosworth Porteous (step-dau of Hercules S. Porteous). It states "Mrs. Porteous was placed on the stand and testified that she and Mr. Porteous were married on April 13, 1889, and at the time of her marriage with Mr. Porteous she had about $7000, she having acquired this money from her first husband." ~Date: 1891-03-12; Paper: Rocky Mountain News

Unfortunately the name of her 1st husband was not mentioned in the article. However, perhaps Clara Bosworth is Denyse's daughter.

But, no, she was not. I found a VERY interesting article in the same newspaper in 1899.Here is an exerpt:

"The name of Porteous is well remembered in Denver.Hercules S. Porteous lived here from the early 80's until the early 90's, and while here he made and lost a fortune... He was at one time a jeweler in the Tabor block.. HE also was interested in mining and cattle and altogether in 1885, had about $175,000 invested in many ways in Colorado. May 26, 1883 he married Miss Bosworth's mother, Margaret L. Bosworth, who had be divorced from Charles B. Bosworth.Mrs. Porteous was killed in a runaway accident July 24, 1885.On Aug 17, that year, Porteous petitioned... to adopt the daughter of his late wife.. her father, Charles C. Bosworth, then living in St. Louis, had abandoned her.

Considering how wealthy Hercules was, he could have met and married Denyse anywhere in the world. As it happens in 1891 the couple was living in England:

1891 England Census about Hercules Porteous

Helen Porteous        75b. 1816 Manchester, Lanc.; Living on own means
Hercules Porteous31 -son- b. 1860 Scotland; same
Denyse Porteous29 -dau in law- b. 1862 United States; same

Isabella Taylor 57 -servant-cook
Loveday Weeks        38 -servant-housemaid

John McKay        68 -servant-gardener

There was no mention of a Porteous wedding in 1889 in the Colorado newspapers, nor any mention of Hercules in 1889, so it is quite likely that he married Denyse elsewhere, although I found no mention of him elsewhere in 1889 in the U.S. papers I have access to.Sorry I couldn't find anything else on Denyse.Annie
