I am a descendant of Joseph Sewell (Sr., Jr., and Joseph K) of Alburgh, VT.Tabor Sewell, brother of Joseph Sr., absolutely married Deborah Deuel about 1807 -- Deborah the d/o Michael and Elsie Slocum Deuel. They issued at least one son, Van Rensaeler.I speculate another son, a Ransom Sewell who also resided a good long time in Missisquioi (sic -- I always mess up this spelling).
Tabor died in Missisquioi; Debora is buried in Alburgh (and I don't have my file with me right now and I can't remember if Tabor is as well or if he were interred in Missisquioi.
It is unknown where Joseph Sr is buried or exactly when he died, but Stratton among others claim he lived well into his 80's dying in the 1820's.He was born 1737/8 Mendon, Worcester Co., MA (I suspect that he was in the household of Joseph Jr in 1810 and possible Tabor's in 1820)
Son Joseph Jr. lived to be 80 and died in 1853 and is buried in Alburgh near his first wife, Kasia Waggoner, 2nd wife Mary Ann Mix, and their daughter, Minerva.Jr's oldest daughter, Jane Ann married Ira Hill; son Tabor I (often transcribed as J) married Amy Walker; son Joseph K married Sarah Honsinger.
Tabor & Deborah's son, Van Renssaeler married 4 times the last being Harriet Malintha Deuel. There is a VR Sewell buried in Alburgh as well.
For Tabor & Deborah Deuel Sewell, The 1810 census for Alburgh shows 1 male under 10 (this would be Van), 1 male 26--44 (this would be Tabor -- suspected birth date ca 1775--8 somewhere probably NY but maybe Canada), 2 females under 10, 1 female 16--25 (this would be Deborah); the 1820 census for Alburgh shows 1 male under 10 (? name), 2 males 10--15 (? names), 1 male 16--25 (this would be Van), 1 male 26--44 (most probably Tabor), 1 male 45 and older (speculatively Joseph Sr), 1 female under 10 (? name), 2 females 10--15 (consistent w/1810), 1 female 26--44 (Debora).
I am yet trying to identify Joseph Sr's wife.I believe he is the same person as a Joseph "Suel" found on the 1779 personal property tax list for Saratoga District of Albany Co.There are Duel's in these PP tax lists; Benjamin "Hammon" is listed -- Joseph Sr. or Jr. is named and heir of both wills Benjamin & Wife, Zilpha Hammond of Alburgh -- stated in Zilpha's as a friend.Francis Waggoner (if the same as) is listed on the tax list of the neighboring district -- Francis & Jennet Hooper Waggoner were the parents of Kasia Waggoner, Joseph Jr's first wife, and she died Jan 1816 Alburgh just months previous to Jane Anne Sewell marrying Ira Hill of Isle La Motte.
Joseph's sister, Anna, was married to William Sowles (aka Soule), and it was suspected that since Anna & William were in Albany Co just previously in Spencetowne & William reportedly was one of the Loyalists in Saratoga that Joseph would be close by.
The reason why I am mentioning all of these people is because they are intrinsically tied together either because they were Loyalists who migrated together and/or related by marriage in one fashion or another. As mentioned I seek a wife for Joseph Sr.His children, probably the Bridget Sewell b. 1766 who married Timothy Sowles (Soule); Joseph Jr. b. 1773; Tabor b. 1775--8; and probably Catherine Sewell b. 1779/80 who married Abel Holbrook in Alburgh.
Would love to compare notes with anyone regarding these families.Susan
