I recently found a deed in Saratoga County in which Joseph Russell and wife Phebe sold property in Saratoga Co. for $200 in 1805.The deed was witnessed by son, Hull Russel.Joseph appeared in 1808 to verify that he was free to create the deed of sale. The deed stated that Joseph Russel was a cooper of the town of Providence, Saratoga Co., NY.
In 1830 Hull Russel witnessed a deed in Chenango Co., NY for his sister-in-law, Phebe Hart Holdridge, listed elsewhere as a Webb deed. I believe Hull's wife was Annie? Hart, thus Phebe was a sister. In 1835 a county census of Jefferson Co. NY showed Hull as head of family but no wife accounted for.Daughter, Ruth E. Russel born 1828, probably in Clayton, married Alpheus Comstock.Probable brother Joseph Russel also of Jefferson Co. married Sally (Sarah) Comstock; brother and sister married brother and sister.
Although I found the will of Elisha Russell in Herkimer Co. NY (1819) he did not mention Joseph as his son.I am trying to find the parents of both Phebe and Joseph.Phebe was born in 1771 in RI and is buried in the Cornell monument in Otsego Co. NY Burlington Cemetery; she died in 1859 and is buried with her daughter, Martha Cornell born 1803 in Saratoga Co. (wife of Daniel). Also, I was able to obtain a copy of Charles Hull's will from the court in Tiverton RI.In the original will, he stated that he took in Phebe Russel and son Hull Russel. He left $100 to Hull. The bulk of his estate went to wife, Phebe, and property to Sarah Soule.
