No.What I have is a good paper trail on my own line through John DeWitt to his father Martin DeWitt who both settled in the Cheraws, now Darlington and Marlboro counties, as adults and to Martin's father, Charles DeWitt (d. 1741, Orange Co., VA) and a 37/37 DNA match with someone who says he has a paper trail to William DeWitt, Martin's brother who settled in Marion District, SC, around the same time (mid 18th cent.). The Chas. DeWitt group in the DNA project has two additional 36/37 matches to us and to each other but the mismatches are on different markers, all rapidly mutating ones. The two 36/37s have some documentation with missing generations. They don't know who was their original migrant to SC.There is another person with only a 12 marker test who claims to have a paper trail to Martin DeWitt's son William. You can guess who this is by the claim attached to it of descent from Jacob DeWitt! No one in this group has any known connection to Orangeburgh, SC.
I live in France so am not well positioned to pursue this on the ground. I have tried to convince everyone who has turned up on internet forums with SC DeWitt connections to be tested but several have not been interested.
I will be traveling starting tomorrow for a couple of weeks.Wish you a good recovery.Kind regards, Martha DeWitt Nakajima
