I recently purchased in Monterey, CA the subject undated studio portrait of a middle-aged woman taken by T. E. Brsitol, Wellsboro, PA.It is identified on the back of the mount in period ink handwriting:
"Mrs M. S. Coles Stony Fork Pa"
The back of the mount also bears notations by a photographer who was evidently making an enlargement of this older image in 1890:
"Portrait Sent May 14 1890
NY 9560 1734S
No 2 Companion to 9559
#111 C6D 14X17.
9559 & 9560 To be companion pictures."
