The books are the same though the titles are different.E.D. and G.S. Dickerman originally published the "Families of Dickerman Ancestry" in 1897.After Edward's death in 1907, his brother George Sherwood Dickerman continued the research and published a reprint of the book in 1922 with a supplement. As described in the preface of this latter edition, the name of the book was changed to "Dickerman Genealogy, Descendants of Thomas Dickerman An Early Settler of Dochester, Massachusetts"because the book had come to be known as "the Dickerman Genealogy."Interestingly, I've found references to the 1922 edition being advertised for sale at $8 a copy.
I'm fairly convinced that Edward Dwight Dickerman did most of the research for the original book.I have in my possession letters written and signed by E.D. Dickerman to other Dickerman's requesting family information. This correspondence is dated prior to 1897.
George S. Dickerman's preface to the second edition also mentions an earlier reference - "... it is over fifty years since Albert Dickerman published his account of the Dickermans of Guilford, New York."I have not found a copy of this earlier book yet.Does anyone know of it's existance?
