Thomas was born, 22 Feb 1871, son of David Dignon (born in Roscommon county,IR, 18 Dec 1847) and Margaret Brady (daughter of Thomas Brady, of Mayo county, IR). Children:Thomas (Glasgow, MT); George C. (Front Royal, VA); Ellen (Richfield Springs, NY); Anna (Mrs. Edward C. Hargadine, Glasgow, MT).
Thomas spent his childhood on the family farm, graduated from high school, and at age 18 began teaching for three years.Graduated in law from the University of MN in 1902 and admitted to practice in MN; located to Glasgow, MT, and was admitted to practice in MT, Feb 1903. There he practiced civil and criminal law.He was first elected to city attorney, and in 1908 was made county attorney. Thomas became a large land holder and farmer.
On 30 Jun 1908, Owatonna, MN, Thomas married Miss Mary E. Cashman, born in Owatonna, in Oct 1876, daughter of Edwin and Mary A. (Welch) Cashman, the father being born in Ireland and the mother in Massachusetts. Mary Cashman Dignan graduated from the University of Minnesota, engaged in teaching, and was elected the county superintendent of schools in Steele county, MN.
