OLD JOHN DIPLEY
To all Dipley researchers...I can't believe that I am the first to post a DIPLEY on GenForum.
(OLD) John Dipley, born Canada, c. 1875, died W. Bloomfield (Now Montclair), NJ December 10, 1861.His death is registered (log book) in archives, Trenton, NJ.
A John Dipley is listed in Paterson, NJ, 1827-29 in Rev. Fischer's census of families, with adult female and six children under age 16, 3 boys, 3 girls.
Other research provides the names of his sons as John, Charles and George.John relocated west in Missouri, George is readily found in subsequent census reports with wife, Sarah Elizabeth Corby, and their 9 children in Bloomfield/Montclair, NJ. Many listings for George and family in Baldwin Directories for that area.
Found information that one daughter, Margaret, listed
1. 1880 Census as born in Canada, abt. 1820.
2. whose death certificate lists "John Dipley, Canada" as her father, her mother as "Julia".
3.Note also that brother George named a daughter, "Julia".
Looping this information around, it can be speculated that the first wife of old John was named "Julia". It is further possible that one daughter was named, "Julia", but I can't find my research data for this hypothesis. Will send in a follow up listing.
John married, 2nd to Margaret(nee ?)Riker, widow of Levi Riker in 1834.John and this Margaret Dipley are listed in 1850 - 1880 Census reports for W. Bloomfield/Montclair (twon name changed in 1862), one of which shows them living with the Thomas (and Amanda nee Riker) Penn family.John and Margaret are listed as "father/mother-in law).To clarify, John was step-father to Amanda Riker Penn, through his marriage to her widowed mother. First son of Thomas and Amanda Penn was named John Dipley Penn.
John Dipley is likely buried in Mt Hebron Cemetery, Montclair, NJ, as there are several Dipley's listed there. Please note that he and others are listed on a bronze plaque, having been disinterred from an old church cemetery that had gone to ruins.Full list of the reinterred can be found in the magazine of the NJ Genealogical Society.Dates of publication on request.
