Rocco Di Tullio, Abruzzi
Searching for the history my DiTullio family.
I have hit a brick wall with my Great Grandpa Rocco DiTullio.
*He was born in 1873-1875 in italy (we think Abruzzi)
It has been said that he had 9-bros. and 1-sister in Italy
*arrived 1897 (he does not appear as Head of Household in the 1900 census in N.Y.or Mass. so he must have been living with father?brother?someone?)
*married Beatrice Datre' (we think in Mass.)
*1st son born Anthony (Tony) Di Tullio/1904in Mass.,2nd James (Jimmy)/1905 in Mass., 1st daughter Mary (Mamme) Di Tullio born 9/18/1906 on 447 Robbins Ave., Bronx, N.Y.
*Beatrice dies after birthing Mary at home in N.Y.
Fellow fruit peddler & partner Corinto Cianci arranged marriage with his daughter Ella to care for the 3 children in about 1907.
*moved to Los Angeles, California
*daughter born Olympia/1909, then my Grandfather Domenico (Danny)2/2/1912 ,
daughter Violet/1914 , then last son Corvie/1917.
All born and raised in Lincoln Heights, a community just out side of downtown L.A.
*Tony and Jimmy move to the San Francisco area to work at 18yrs.old (possible step-mother conflict)
*1920 census was the first time his wife Ella shortened the name to "Tullio"
(she continued to fill out all documents and started shortening our name to Tullio since Rocco did not read or write in english very well). He was a hard working laborer.
*Rocco died 49 yrs.old 5/28/1924 of a stroke and left my grandpa Danny to care for the family @ 12 yrs old. My family remained in the fruit business and my great Grandma out lived a total of 5 husbands and left no documents or birth records from Italy to use in my search.
All the above are passed away except my great aunt violet (84yrs.) who suffers from a recent severe stroke.
Please let me know if there is any connection between our families or any advise you have to offer.
Jim Tullio (was Di Tullio)
