Re: CASSIDYS and the Old Irish Namimg System
I've used naming patterns a litle bit in the past, but don't consider myself an expert at it. Still, it seems that the Dolan and Cassidy families deviated. They did name the 5th daughter after the now deceased older sister. But they didn't name a daughter after her mom (Ellen) until the 6th daughter. They did name third son after his father. John Dolan and Ellen Cassidy are the parents here.
The Dolan boys are:
Patrick, born @ 1838
Francis, born @ 1845
John James, born 1855
The Dolan girls are:
Anne, born @1836
Jane, born @ 1841 (died 1854)
Mary, born @ 1843 Canada
Sarah, born @ 1845, Canada
Margret, born @ 1851, Canada
Jane (born 1859)
Ellen (born 1860. Named after Ellen Cassidy Dolan)?
They were in Canada about 1841-42, so maybe by the 1852 census (delayed census), more kids had died and the names were re-used? The census is where I got all these names.
BTW, I totally forgot about that remarriage caveat. Thanks for bringing it to my attention! It doesn't apply in this case, but I will definitely keep it in mind.
Ironically, the Dolan's I wanted to match to are:
Francis, born @1788 & Ann McGovern. Using REVERSE name patterns, I might have it!
Thanks so much for taking even more time with me; you are really great.
