Alex Dombrowski son of Antoni & Josephine Niedzwiecki
I was wondering if anyone had any connections to my family. In particular, I am researching Alexander Dombrowski, b. abt 1880 on a farm near Kirkily, Lithuania, (or what is now Lithuania. It was once Poland, and at the time belonged to Russia.) Alex came to the US in 1902, was married to Frances Mielnik, had a child in California, Leonard A. Dombrowski.
Alex was killed in a sensational murder in Gibraltar township of Wayne County, MI, on the Old Dixie Highway by a gang of bootleggers. He was shot on Feb 24, 1922, and died the next day.His wife Frances, and his son Leonard witnessed the murder. One person of the gang was misidentified, and sent to prison for life.He was pardoned by the Michigan governer when the real gang leader was arrested.Frances married a William Budds, but was murdered on Oct 2, 1924, possibly by members of the same gang.
I have about 30 newspaper articles, and a MI Supreme Court appeal summary about the incidents so far.
My grandmother, Bronislawa, known as Bessie in the US, was b. 14 Dec 1884 in the same place came to Connecticut about 1906, married Leverett Campbell, and in 1926 moved to Belmont, CA, next to her sister Maria Staugus, b. 15 Aug 1886.I knew them well.My grandmother died 22 Nov. 1961, in Santa Rosa, CA, and her sister 15 Jan 1972, in Vallejo, CA.
The fourth child, Joseph Dombrowski, came to Detroit and worked in an automobile factory, and then returned to the farm in the Old Country, where he died.
If anyone is related, or would like more information about Alexander, or my family let me know.I am looking for more on the Alex Dombrowski story, and plan to travel to Michigan this summer.Don Risingdonrising@aol.com
