Where were the Donathans before they were in KY?
My ancestor was said to have changed his name from something that either was or sounded like Donovan to Covey; his name was Nixon Covey (all I ever knew him by), he was born March 1, 1791, somewhere in Maryland; we can't find hide nor hair of this man until 1830 Montgomery Co, KY, census and he was married in 1828 or I might not have found him then; he was said to have killed a man over a horse and changed his name; we thought Donovan, but a 3rd cousin said his dad always said he was told that Nixon Covey's original name sounded like Donovan...so I thought I'd try this avenue; Nixon was supposed to have joined the War of 1812 from Mason Co, KY (Mason Co had a line through it in Nixon's widow's application for his pension); Nixon was in Montgomery Co on 1830, Morgan Co on 1840, Breathitt Co on 1850, and Estill Co on 1860 & 1870 Census records; he died 1879; anybody heard any similar tales about one of your Donothans?
