I do show marriages between the DYE - KELLY - JENNINGS family with the marriage of Mary DYE to James KELLY, Sr., son of Amy DONIPHAN and (Captain) John KELLY and this James KELLY, Sr. was the brother of Mrs. Ann KELLY JENNINGS and this James KELLY, Sr. was the 1st husband of Mary DYE who married a John JENNINGS as her 2nd husband. It is possible that this John JENNINGS might have been the John JENNINGS who was the son of Ann KELLY and William JENNINGS, Jr. but I am not sure.I descend from their son, Edward Salley JENNINGS, Sr., born:1720 in Richmond County, Virginia.
Alexander Doniphan KELLY was the brother of Mrs. Ann KELLY JENNINGS and after her death in 1734/35 which followed by a year the death of her husband, William JENNINGS, Jr., her daughter, Martha JENNINGS, was left to the care of Ann's brother, Alexander Doniphan KELLY, whose wife was Martha Elizabeth WILSON/WILLSON, whom I would imagine that Martha JENNINGS had been named for.And this same Alexander Doniphan KELLY was a witness to the will of Mrs. Hannah WILLIAMS JENNINGS, wife of Augustine JENNINGS, born:abt. 1708 in Richmond County, Virginia, who was the brother-in-law of Mrs. Ann KELLY JENNINGS and the brother of Ann's husband, William JENNINGS.In addition, my paternal 5th great grandfather, Edward Salley JENNINGS, Sr., born:1720 in Richmond County, Virginia, was, after the death off of his mother, given over to the guardianship of his uncle, Augustine JENNINGS, along with Edward's youngest sibling, brother, Calathan JENNINGS, while the guardianship of their brothers, William JENNINGS, III and John JENNINGS was given over to their uncle, Matthew KELLY, another brother of Ann KELLY and the son of Amy DONIPHAN and (Captain) John KELLY, born:abt. 1660 in VA, (son of Penelope ? and Matthew (1) KELLY.)
And my information shows that Amy DONIPHAN was the daughter of Amie/Amy/Amee PARTRIDGE and (Captain) Alexander DONIPHAN, Sr..Amie PARTRIDGE is known to have had siblings, Samuel PARTRIDGE, Sarah PARTRIDGE, Mary PARTRIDGE and Elizabeth PARTRIDGE.Mary PARTRIDGE married a COLCLOUGH and Sarah married a WILSON/WILLSON probably related to the WILSON/WILLSON family that married into the KELLY family. And these PARTRIDGE siblings are believed to be somehow related to the George PARTRIDGE who immigrated in the early 1600s to New England but not sure how.
I have also been researching where the middle name of Salley came from for my 5th great grandfather, Edward Salley JENNINGS, Sr. and, so far, the nearest and strongest possibility appears to be that his mother's uncle, Alexander "Alex" DONIPHAN, Jr., married Sarah SALLIS who was the daughter of Samuel SALLIS and Mrs. Sarah CATLETT TALIAFERRO, widow of 1st husband, Robert TALIAFERRO, Jr., and married Alexander "Alex" DONIPHAN, Jr. as her 2nd husband and then after his death married 3rd husband, Samuel SHORT.Sarah CATLETT was the daughter of Elizabeth UNDERWOOD and (Colonel) John CATLETT.My understanding is that the name of SALLIS was pronounced with a French pronunciation of SAL-LIS but that this particular SALLIS family had immigrated from England.
I have also thought that is highly possible that either the Penelope ? who was the wife of Matthew (1) KELLY and the mother of (Captain) John KELLY might, perhaps, have been of the maiden name of SALLIS or SALLEE or SALLEY but that is just speculation on my part or, perhaps, the name of SALLIS/SALLEE/SALLEY could have been a name in the DONIPHAN, PARTRIDGE or WILLOUGHBY/JENNINGS/PAYNE or ROBINSON lineage from the JENNINGS family group.Looking for information on anything connecting with any of that.
Sincerely,
Bellinda Myrick - Barnett
