Latham Donnell, Guilford Co., NC
"Everybody sez" Latham Donnell, son of Thomas Donnell and Jane Latham married Charlotte (Mitchell) Ervin - probably because Rev. S. M. Rankin in his "History of the Buffalo Presbyterian Church...":
"...Latham married Mrs. Charlotte Ervin, widow of Robert and daughter of Adam Mitchell."
"...Charlotte [Mitchell] married first Robert Ervin and second Latham Donnell..."
But Robert Ervin did not marry Charlotte Mitchell until 1794:
"...Robert [Ervin] married Charlotte Mitchell, daughter of Adam, in 1794..."
So, presumably Latham Donnell did not marry Charlotte (Mitchell) Ervin until, say, about 1800 or later.
Latham Donnell had been married previously, however, as seen in the following abstract of a Guilford County deed:
“20 May 1787 Latham [or Lathom] Dennell (Guilford Co) to John Brown (same); for £300 sold 254 ac on both sides of Reedy Fork of Haw R; border: begins at William Scott’s corner ‘No. 13 & 14’; part of grant (no date) by Earl Granville to George Black.(signed) ‘Letham’ Dennell & Lida Dennell’s mark ‘X’ (sic); (witness) Wm Brown & Wm Dennell; May 1787 acknowledged.”
"Lida Dennell" is almost certainly "Lydia Donnell," and she was clearly Latham Donnell's wife in May 1787.
I am still working on her identity, but I think at this time she was the Lydia Donnell named as a daughter of Arthur Forbis (m. Lydia (Steele) Rankin) in his 1789 Will.
I'd welcome any comment/discussion and any help in trying to find more evidence to support the latter theory.
