Edwards, Eady, Dool, Hawley Renfrew Ont
Hello!
I've just joined the list! I'm researching the Eady, Edwards and Hawley family names. I was wondering if any of you might be able to add to my own
research?
I don't know why, but when I was 12 and my grandmother Maria (Mariah?) Ellen Edwards (nee Eady) was in her early 90's I started talking with her
about the family every time I saw her, and I recorded many of the stories that she passed on. It was great that I did that, but unfortunately somewhere
along the line I've managed to misplace all of that priceless information and needless to say my grandmother passed on a long time ago. :( So I'm basically
starting over.
My grandparents family settled in Renfrew county Ontario, sometime in the late 1800's or early 1900's. The old family farm is/was located on Hwy 41
between Griffith and Denbiegh (sp?) and directly beside Hydes Creek.
This is pretty much the extent of what I have so far, can anyone add to this or point me in a direction that might be helpful? :
Briefly- My Great great great grandparents on my mothers fathers side came from Wales and probably lived in Wales their whole life. I'd assume that they
might have been born in the early 1800's. They had two known Children- Richard and Clara- both of whom came to Canada. Lets say that they were
probably born around the 1850's to 1860's- I have no real dates. :(
Clara married Robert Dool and they produced at least one daughter- Beatrice. Probably in the 1880's or so. Beatrice Dool married an Alex Hawley. The
Hawleys had one son that I'm aware of and I believe his name is Garth. He was apparently reseaching the Edwards family as well.
Richard Edwards- son of the Unknown (Wales) Edwards married a Sara Forsyth (I havent been able to find anything on her). Sara was from Scottland
and Richard of course was from Wales- I'm not sure which country they married in. They had a number of children, and my mother tells me that he
apparently choose to educate his daughters- not his sons. When they came to North America they settled somewhere in the New England States first,
then they moved to the Perth, Ontario area.
One of their children was Frank (just Frank, not short for anything at all, no middle name) and he was my great grandfather. Again I don't have a date for
his birth, but if he was close to my grandmother in age he was likely born in the 1880's.
My great grandfather on my mothers mothers side was John R. Eady. He married Maria Knight. All I know about them is that they came to Canada from
Wales? when my grandmother was only three years old. My Grandmother was born in 1885 so I presume they would have emigrated to Canada around
1888 or 1889. They produced several children- at least one set of twins. One of their children was Maria Ellen Eady- my grandmother.
Frank Edwards and Maria Ellen Eady likely married in the very early 1900's. Frank died in his 50's or early 60's (1952 ?) and Maria lived to the age of
93 (died 1978) and was buried in the Denbiegh cemetery. They had 10 children- Muriel May born in 1907, Francis Edgar (Frankie) died at 19, Isobel
Ellen (Nellie), Arthur John (A.J) never married, Cecil Richard (died at 19), Reginald Stanford (Formerly married to Viola who runs the museum in the
Denbiegh area- most of the things she has on display there came directly from our old family farm), Twins- Lois and Thomas Lloyd, my mother Edna
Eady, and Florence Catherine (Babe).
And that's about it ... if anyone can help out that would be wonderful!!!! Thank you!
