Just received my ggrandfather Mathias Dorer's obituary and immigration information.I thought that I would post the information and see if anyone connects.
Mathias Dorer, an aged and much respected resident of Huguenot, died at the home of his son, Elmer, in Chambersburg, PA, at 8:45 o'clock Monday night of paralysis.
He was born in Baden, Germany, on Feb 26, 1846. His parents died shortly afterwards. When a boy he came to this country and secured employment at Huguenot, New York where he had since resided.
He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Margaret Thompson and the second Miss Margaret Rosenkraus.
In 1861 he enlisted in Co K, 143d Regiment, NY Volunteer Engineers and served throughout the war.When discharged he held the position of artificer. Mr. Dorer was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church of this village, of Carroll Post No. 279, G.A. R.,, Ustayantha Lodge No. 143 I.O.O.F..Port Jervis Lodge No 328, R.A.M. and of the Order of the Mystic Shrine of New York City,
He is survived by 5 children: James, Mathias, Jr, Elmer, Eliza & Irene.
The funeral will be held on Thursday at 2:30 o'clock at 144 Ball Street.Interment will be in Laurel Grove cemetery.The services will be in charge of the Masonic Order.
