Sharon Y. Dorfler Kemble, age 74, of Indio, Calif., and formerly of Mundelein,Illinois; Austin, TX; Geneva, Illinois; Kenosha, WI, and St. Joseph, Michigan, died after a long battle with lung cancer Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at the home of her daughter, Teri, in Bermuda Dunes, Calif.
She was born Jan. 5, 1931, in Racine, Wis., the daughter of the late Basil B. Steinhoff and Lillian E. (nee Scheid) Steinhoff and her late adoptive father, Dr. Henry L. LaHoda, formerly of Mundelein.
Sharon married Joseph Louis Dorfler of Mundelein on June 25, 1949 at Santa Maria del Popolo Catholic Church, Mundelein.He preceded her in death December 1988.She then married Robert Derrick Kemble of Kenosha, Wis., on April 20, 1991, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Kenosha, Wis.He preceded her in death in December 1996.
The Dorfler's lived in St. Joseph, Mich., for 26 years.Sharon was active in Lake Michigan Catholic School and volunteered at Birth Right.She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed cross stitching, scrapbooking and genealogy.
She was a founder of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, Austin, Texas, in 1987 and also was active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Austin.She was a member of the Heritage Palms Singles Club and Travel Club in Indio, CA where she had lived since 1998, and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, LaQuinta, Calif.
She leaves to mourn her passing her all children, Cynthia Marie (Jeffery) Dorfler-Hederer Texas, Teresa Elizabeth (David) Dorfler-Finley of Bermuda Dunes, Calif., Diane M. Dorfler of Ariz., Joseph Carl (Laurie) Dorfler of Calif., and Gregory H. (Martha) Dorfler of Geneva;two stepchildren, David (Betty) Kemble and Kelly A. (Michael) O'Connor, both of Kenosha, Wis.; six grandchildren, Ryan L. and Andrew J. Dorfler, Douglas P. and Miles J. Finley, Colleen M. and Shannon R. Dorfler; and a step granddaughter, Jamie Korus in Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian and Henry LaHoda and Basil B. Steinhoff and stepmother; a brother, Delmer B. LaHoda in 1951; and her husbands.
Visitation on Sunday, Feb. 27, at The Healy Chapel, Sugar Grove, ILL where the rosary will be recited at 2 p.m.
Monday, Feb. 28 the funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1401 N. Richmond Road, McHenry.The Rev. Thomas Burr will be celebrant.Interment will be at Church of St. Mary Cemetery, McHenry.
The Healy Chapel handled the arrangements in Illinois.
