Re: The Dorland Enigma Solved
Hi Joan.....would like to correspond with you on the Banta-Montfort family history....I keep in touch with Judy Cassidy and know you have worked with her on the Shaker families from the Low Dutch. If interested, please check out my two websites and then decide if you'd like to email me
http://bar-b-k.tripod.comhttp://bar-b-k.tripod.comTHE MONTFORT FAMILY: A NARRATIVE...
I have worked on this line for over 45 years, give or take..actually became interested at age 10 in 1952 then a stint working in the Indiana History Dept at the New Albany/Floyd County Public Library [New Albany, IN] afforded me both the means and the time to work on my family history as genealogy wasn't as popular as it has become.I was 20 then, and worked while my husband was in Vietnam.
My main focus has been correcting errors on my family in both Elsa Banta's book on the family [I have corresponded with her on my new research and sources, and also in A FRISIAN FAMILY by Theodore M. Banta. When you find your gtgtgt grandfather married to his sister in law and not his actual wife plus the proof of the error...well you get the idea.
My line is from Hendrick Banta 3rd through each of his two wives...through Rachel I descend from Charity who married Francis Montfort Sr...and from the second wife, Antie, I descend from John who was married to Polly Riker.Five of my direct line were in the first families to Shakertown...Charity Banta Montfort, John and Polly Riker Banta and joining in early 1806, Francis Jr and his wife Polly Banta Montfort. To add to this confusion [and its not nearly as confusing as my Demarest line, trust me]...Francis Jr, son of Charity, married Polly, daughter of John....and I descend from their youngest son, David, who she found out was on the way after she and Francis had joined the Shakers.Thankfully he departed shortly before his 21st birthday.
I have posted more info on the Banta and Montfort genforum sites as well as on my two websites and several other websites have added links to my sites.
If possible please write...am glad to share anyting I have.
My email is email@example.com and I think Judy would vouch that I am a serious researcher and have years of experience.
