Buddy, You may feel that Henry Dossett is your missing Person. If you see the other message I posted earlier today you will see the wordage of the affidavit for nancy to recieve pension from Henrys death. It listed the childrens names. I have copies of other court records with William listed. I also have copies of court records showing that Henry was son of Thomas Dossett born 1803 and married Sally shank in 1824. These were given to my husband many many years ago (over 25) by a woman who claimed to be related to Henry thru his son James (my husbands g-g-grandfather) I don't know who she was but she (and the fact that I am a pack rat) have made our search much easier. Now as in all things there are possible problems with your William M. born cr.1854 and the one in this linage born in 1852. I have only the papers that were given to my husband those long years ago to go by, but they list that William Married Indiana "Indy" Rumble on Oct. 21 1871 in pike co. Ind.The other Document I have a copy of is a guardian's declaration for minor children's Army pension. It names Nancy Hayden Dossett's2nd husband-one Jacob Loveless as the guardian of her minor children. it again list her children (minus James-who was of age at that time) So,William (son of Henry) Might have changed his name at that time to Loveless as these declarations made the children legally Jacobs children but still eligible for their fathers pension. It would not have been a closed adoption in the state of indiana as the one parent was still retaining parental rights and the other was legally (as well as in reality)dead. So you have found William the son of Henry Dossett. But is he your lost grandpa?
