This is not my line, but information I have on the ancestors of Cornelius is:
Philip Dossett (who died in about 1784) in Orange County, North Carolina, identified his wife, Selah, and three children, one of which was William Dossett.William married Drucilla Forrester in Orange County, in late 1783 or early 1784--their marriage license was dated December 30, 1783.
One of the children of William and Drucilla was Robert Dossett, born about 1789 in North Carolina.
Robert Dossett, son of William Dossett who was a native of North Carolina, migrated to Tennessee in 1804.Although I have not been able to document that they are the same Robert, it is very likely that William the father of Robert is the same William who was married to Drucilla Forrester (has anyone documented the link?).
The Robert Dossett who migrated to Tennessee in 1804 was first married to Elizabeth Willoughby, who died in 1836.Robert and Elizabeth had at least seven children, one of whom was James Dossett, born about 1821 in Tennessee (his age is reported as 29 in the 1850 census)
James married Pheby Lynch, born about 1822 in Tennessee, on Feb. 11, 1840, in Claiborne County, Tennessee. They had at least nine children, one of whom was William Madison Dossett(some say Matthew--does any one know which is correct?) born in about 1853.
William married Sarah Berry in Union Co., Tennessee in December 1873 or 1874;they had three children, one of whom was John Henry Dossett, born July 28, 1878 in Union Co., Tennessee.
John Henry Dossett married Alice Martha Graves on July 23, 1899 in Union Co., Tennessee. One of their children was Cornelius.
