While DOSSETT may be the adopted spelling of the name which you are searching, may I suggest that the family you might really be related to will be the Joseph Dorsett Sr. line, which is first found in the deed records of Laurens County, 96th District of SC., where Joseph witnessed a deed for Robert Dennis[Dennison] of the Reedy River Settlement, 14 March, 1785.SEE GEORGIA HISTORICAL SOCIETY, 1970 issue, page 173

I've had to collect the Dosset as well as the Dorsett information regarding this family for both surnames are used for this family as late as 1900, sometimes in the same documents.
We feel that Joseph had five sons:
James - Thomas - Joseph Jr. - John - and Elijah.
by using the deed records where Joseph deeded land to them.
If you think this might be a connection, please see the Dorsett forum or email me.
