I want to put out there more inquires on this family. What I have found since this post is that the Nancy that married William Dossett (In Hardin Co, Ill) was Nancy Stevens. They were married in Pope Co. Ill. Aug. 7, 1834.
James H. (Holland) Dossett married a Nancy (widow Hughs). She is living 1 house away from William Dossett in 1840.The record is miss translated as Nancy "Lewis".Another researcher corrected it as Hews.
Further research tells me that William and Nancy (Stevens) had 4 children (Mary Ann B: 1835, Drucillia B:1838, William Ila B:1840 & Nancy Angeline B:1842).That tells me that William and Nancy (Stevens) both pass away between 1842 and 1850.William (Ila) and Drucillaare found living with their Aunt and Uncle James H. and Nancy Dossett., The Hughs children living with them are James H. Dossetts step children.I am unsure of Catharine McFadden, but I am guessing she is a niece also.
Mary Ann (daughter of William and Nancy Stevens) is living with a Wiley R and Margaret Palmer.I am unsure of just how they are related, unless Nancy who was the widow of "Hughs" was a Palmer.A guess here.
Nancy Angeline Dossett is living with an Abner and Sarah Barnard.Anyone know the relationship of these people to the Dossetts?
On April 3, 1852, these 4 children received10 acres of land, with the same land description:Range 9E, NENW Meridian 3.
William Dossett purchased 40A with the description:Range 9E, Meridian 3 in Hardin Co Aug. 27, 1839.He purchased the land for $1.25 per Acre. The children each were given the land in 1852, purchase price of 0.This is what makes me believe that this is their fathers land being transferred into their names.
Now onto William and James Holland Dossetts father.
In the past most speculated that he was from NC then settled in Campbell Tenn.I think that they are related, but Ila, father to William and James H. Dossett is living in Jackson, Tenn., not Campbell.
You can find the marriage records of Ila (miss translated as "Alec Dosset").In looking at the original it defiantly says IIea Dosset. He signed the document with an X which tells me he couldn't read or write. He married Polly Holland (hence the middle name of James Holland Dossett).
I definatly think that Ila is the son of William and Drucilla Forrister, from NC.Ilas oldest son is named William and this said William does name a daughter "Drucilla".
James Holland Dossett has a son named Ila F. Dossett. It is my belief that the "F" is for Forrester. But this is a guess.
I would love to hear from anyone who has any information on this family.I also welcome any corrections if I have made any. Thanks!!
