I am not a member of this family, although some distant relatives married Doster women, so I have a little information on them from a book I own "Frederick County, Virginia" Settlement and Some First Families of Back Creek Valley, 1730-1830; Wilmer L. Kerns, Ph.D.
"Jonathan Doster was born in 1740, and died in 1827, in Jackson Co., GA.It is believed that he went south with his brother James, but later went to Jackson Co. in 1782. His wife was named Margaret, by whom six children were born."
Jonathan was one of five children of Thomas Doster, Sr. "who was reportedly born in Wurtemberg, Germany in 1660 (I believe that to be incorrect) and died in Opequon Valley, Frederick Co., (VA).In 1748 Thomas' will was signed on June 7, 1748, and was recorded in Book 1, in Winchester. After marrying in 1725, in Philadelphia, Thomas came into contact with Jost Hite, and accompanied him to the upper Opequon Settlement in 1732.The Doster surname became well-known in Frederick County, including Back Creek Valley.Thomas Doster, Sr., was a planter. At least five children have been identified. The Doster surname has been gone from the County for almost 150 years.(There is further information here on his other children.)
