Because Jane married in Pike Co, and Malachi Doster appears in the both the 1840 and 1850 census, I think he is the father. In the 1840 census, he had a female in the household age 15-20, who disappears in 1850, with Jane showing up in the household of Hiram Beckum. Now, NOT PROVED, but I think Malachi was the son of Joshua Doster, a Revolutionary Soldier, who lived in Orangeburg Dist, SC (1790 census), Jackson Co, GA (1802 tax digest, 1805 Land Lottery registered in 1802-03, Hancock Co, GA (1806 registration for 1807 Land Lottery), 1809 Baldwin Co TD, 1811 Jones Co TD, 1812 Putnam Co TD, 1818 & 1820 Baldwin Co TD, Malachi b. ca 1793, md. 1/ Polly Shepherd on 1 May 1824 in Wilkinson Co, GA. Note that Wilkinson is the county next to Baldwin Co, GA where Joshua Doster lived in 1820. He md. 2/ 20 May 1832 Upson Co, GA, Nancy Pope. Jane would be by the first wife, and older than the other children. Malachi appears in the 1860 Russell Co, AL census. Some of the children by the second marriage ended up in AR. Would appreciate more information on Jane and Hiram Beckum for my files. No book planned!!
