These are my ancestors, too, through their son Samuel Dodson, Jr. who married Hannah Smith. Samuel Dodson Jr. and Hannah Smith are buried in Pine Grove cemetery in Harveyville, Huntington Twp., Luzerne county PA.
Samuel Dodson Sr. was born 6 MAY 1738 and died 7 JAN 1796 in Lehigh county PA. His wife Elizabeth Rhoads was born 31 DEC 1744 in Chester county PA and died 5 APR 1815. Their children settled in Luzerne county after the death of Samuel.
Their daughter (and therefore a sister of my ancestor Samuel Dodson Jr. and also of your ancestor Hannah Dodson) Abigail Dodson was captured by Indians at Gilbert's Mill on the Mahoning Creek in Lehigh county PA on 29 APR 1780. She was eventually rescued and brought to the Allentown/Bethlehem area where she became part of the Moravian society. (Otherwise, the Dodson family were Quakers from England) Then when Samuel Dodson Sr. died, Abigail moved to Luzerne county like I mentioned before, where she married Peter Brink.
Here is an URL for the whole story:
I don't have any information on the parents of Elizabeth Rhoads. But Samuel Dodson Sr. was a son of Thomas Dodson, b. ~1685 in Cheltenham, Philadelphia county PA, d. after 1760 in Chester county PA, m. 14 APR 1718 at First Presbyterian church of philadelphia to Mary Prigg(e) b. 1699.
Thomas Dodson was the son of John Dodson b. MAR 1655 in Knaresborough, Yorkshire, England, who emigrated and settled in Cheltenham, Phila. co. PA. I have no information on his wife. John Dodson's parents were Daniel and Suzanne Dodson who were born (before 1632), lived and died in Knaresborough, Yorkshire, England.
