Nancy, according to "The Dodson (Dotson) Family of North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia: A history and Genealogy of Their Descendants Vol One by Williams and Lucas
This line of Dotson's would be:
I. Charles Dodson b. c1649 d. 1704/05 Richmond County leaving a will that named wife Ann and 8 (eight) children. After the death of Charles Dodson Ann had remarried by 3 July 1706John Hill.
II. Lambeth Dodson (7th child of Charles and Ann) b. late 1600's Richmond County, VA.The births of three of his children are recorded in the North Farnham Parish Register between 1724 nd 1734.Thus it is assumed his marriage took place in the early 1720's.His wife was named Sarah, and some say she was Sarah Harris daughter of Philip Harris, and that she may have died 21 Feb 1736 as the parish register records such a death for a Sarah. It is not confirmed that this refers to Lambeth's wife, but if so he likely remarried. However we have no records showing the name of his 2nd wife. Lambeth's children are named in the book as 1.Mary b. 3 April 1724 no further info on her 2. Isaac Dodson, 3. Ann "Nancy" b. 20 July 1734 no other info on her 4. John 5. Charles (perhaps the one in Granville Co NC) 6. Lambeth, 7. Daniel ( there was a George Dodson that might belong to this family)
III. Lambeth Dodson (until more definate proof can be found we can only suggest that the Lambeth Dodson discussed here is the son of the elder Lambeth Dodson of early Richmond County, VA. though his name makes it a reasonable conjecture. We may in some instances be confusing the records of the two Lambeth's.) There is no doubt that Lambeth Dodson Jr lived in VA on the NC state line. His descendants lived in later years over the line from Patrick and Henry Counties in the NC counties of Stokes and Rockingham. No marriage records or estate settlements for the several Lambeth Dodson's.The name Elizabeth is the only wife's name found in records and we are not sure of which Lambeth she was the wife. The records indicate that Lambeth Dodson Jr had the following Children: 1. Esau b abt 1754, 2. Richard Dodson, 3.Charles Dodson, 4 Lambeth III, 5. Reuben, 6. William
IV.Lambeth Dodson the records of this Lambeth are difficult to sort from the records of his father. He appears to have had a wife named Hannah about whom there is no info except that she lived to an advanced age.The data of Mrs Lucius McConnell gives the information that her name was Hannah Witt b. c 1747/48 d. after 1850 at age 103 in Lawrence County, IN. Lambeth was prob dead by 1814 when his heirs sold his land in Henry County VA. A search of the court minutes of Henry County could clarify this family. His children's names are derived from the deed of sale of land which appears to be land that once belonged to Lambeth Dodson. 1. John Dodson, 2. Jane Dodson b. 1775 d. 1850 married Spencer Kellam b. 1768 PA d. 1856 son of Wm Kellam 3. Elizabeth Betsy Dodson married Jonathan White both died Lawrence County, IN, 4. William Dodson b. c 1783 or earlier in NC and died about 1861 Madison County, AR
v. William Dodson b. c 1783 or earlier in NC d. about 1861 Madison County AR. He was married twice, the first wife, named Nancy was his wife in 1805 family records say his first wife was a Raynor but give no first name. His second wife was Clarissa Cook b. c 1817 d. June 1897 Madison county AR they were apparently married in Arkansas.
William Dodson was on the 1800 census of Rockingham Co NC.In 1803 Wm wittnessed the deed for sale of land by Ambrose White and wife Sally of Stokes County NC to Thomas Childress of Henry County, VA.
On 11 Nov 1805 Wm Dodson and wife Nancyof Rockingham County, NC sold land in Henry County VA to John Dodson of Henry County, VA
A tradition in the Madison County Arkansas Dodson's is that Wm lived for a while in Grainger County, TN.indeed, A Wm Dodson is found in the 1810 tax list of Grainger Co, (Flat Creek)
By 1830 Wm Dodson was in McMinn County, TN where he was enumerated on page 133 of the census. He lived there a number of yrs and some of his sons were married there. His family also lived in Roane and Rhea Counties.it is said that Wm Dodson was a court clerk of McMinn Co at one time.
Sometime after 1840, Wm moved to Madison County, Arkansas where his name first appears on a tax list in 1845.In 1846 Wm Dodson and wife Clarissa sold land in Madison Co to Henry H Steinbridge. In 1849 he made claim to land in township 16 Range 24 section 9 of Madison County.
Unfortunately Madison County AR is among the counties which sustained a loss of records due to courthouse fires.
