Hello Morris, I am sorry but I can't tell you the parents of David Dotson. I did look at the 1820 census records for Ashe Co., North Carolina. There is a Reuben and James Dodson living in Ashe. I think these two are the children of Charles Dodson b. 1750 (son of Lambeth Jr. Dodson).
I did find information that explained Ashe Co., NC was formed from Wilkes Co.,NC in 1799. Bounded by Alleghany, and Watauga Co., North Carolina. I guess there is a possiblity that you might find your records in one of these counties.
Vol.II; pg. 1304 of the Dodson/Dotson Family by Lucas goes as follows for Ashe Co., North Carolina.
