I have been able to trace William Dotson and Margaret back to Bledsoe Co., Tennessee in 1830. In 1840, they have moved to Bradley Co., Tennessee. By 1850, they are in Walker Georgia. Immediately, they move to Houston Co., Texas and in a couple of years; move to Cherokee Co., Texas. The 1850 census list children that had been born in Alabama in mid 1820. I can not find the family in Alabama in 1820. His census always states he was born in North Carolina. But believe me, I can't find where we fit in. If anybody could, please help...It seems like it should be so simple and easy but...
James M. Dotson was born October 9, 1836 in Bledsoe Co., Tennessee. Died October 27, 1907 in Colorado City, Mitchell Co., Texas. James is the son of William Dotson and Margaret. His siblings were (1.) Jane Dotson b. 1822 AL. (2.) Mary E. b. 1824 AL (3.) Martha b. 1828 AL (4.) Josiah b. 1831 TN (5.) Jeremiah b. 1834 TN (6.) Milo S. b. 1837 TN (7.) Harrison b. 1840 TN (8.) Sarah Katherine b. 1842TN (9.) John b. 1844 GA (10.) Margaret b. 1849 GA.
James served in the Civil War (18th Texas Infantry Co., G). 1860 census he is in Cherokee Co., 1870-1880 he is in Houston Co.,. It appears he moved to Van Zandt Co., Texas about 1889. His children are attending school in VZ in 1890. He lived across the road from Milo S. Dotson; his brother. He is on 1900 VZ census. Shortly afterward, they moved to Mitchell Co., Tx. I probably don't have all children listed; because there is a Kyle Aldrich/Aldridge listed as grandson living with them. More research..
