The Dodson/Dotson name which is connected to our Dotson ancestors is most likely English in origin.Charles Dodson of VA, supposed to be the "immigrant" ancestor was from England, according to family tradition. (See:*The Dodson(Dotson) Family of North Parish, Richmond County, Virginia*, by Williams and Lucas). The William Dotson of Madison County, AR was a direct descendant of Charles through Charles' son, Lambeth.Recently, while searching a UK website, I found Dodsons in the late 1800s in Lambeth, England.I believe Charles named his son that because he came to America from there (a theory). That name was carried down through two more generations, the third "Lambeth" being the father of William "Bart" Dotson, b. ca1783 in Rockingham County, NC. This disproves the idea that the Dotsons were Native Americans, though some of them did marry Indian women.
