Wow!This is great!Thank you for your reply and the wonderful information about Asenath DOTY.The reason why I have her identified as Eliza is because of two sources:
1) The so-called "gene pool" listing had her as Eliza DOTY (born VA) with father John DOTY and spouse Burgess RAY (this is how I even found out about her - I was originally searching for information about Burgess - I did not know that Lydia was his second wife).I have the gene pool print out somewhere. As I recall, it stated that the year of her death was 1844 - which matches your information.
2) A search of the Indiana Marriage Index had an Eliza DOTY married to "Ray Burges" in Johnson County, Indiana on December 3, 1842. I am certain that the groom's name in the index is in error.I intend to request a copy of the marriage record to verify that her spouse was indeed Burgess RAY.Perhaps the marriage record will shed more light about her given, and possibly, her middle name.
Do you happen to know where she is buried in Johnson County?
So you say that her given name was Asenath and her nicknamed "Sena"?I will certainly pass on any information that I run across about her and her family to you.
As I mentioned above, Burgess D. RAY later married Lydia LAKE on October 23, 1845 in Shelby County, Indiana (county borders east of Johnson County).Burgess purchased land from the federal government and they settled in Bartholomew County, Indiana (borders south of Shelby County). They had at least one child, Louisa (born 11-10-1846).I am descended from Louisa.
