A friend recently gave me a framed print of an 1898 Life magazine cartoon. It depicts a portly older man leading his daughter through a room full of glowering men in dinner jackets- the man in the front is snickering, though, and the daughter is wearing a sign that says 'Disinherited, selfish, bad tempered and unreasonable.' The caption is 'His only child/ Mr. Doty's little scheme for retaining his daughter.'I'm very curious about the story behind this- any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
