I don't understand the Stepp/Stapp family enough to have any immediate information there, but what you have found is very interesting. There may be more than one Moses Stepp from what I have read. While I don't take other researchers' work as gospel, I do gain insight from the benefit of their work.I wanted to tell you though that a Joseph and Nancy Cocks (Cox?) Stepp did join the church, though not until 1825.I'm still wading through the Dutton/Stepp information I find.See http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnhawkin/coppercreek.htmhttp://www.rootsweb.com/~tnhawkin/coppercreek.htm
I trying to find out where the "Dota" for Anna came from.I don't believe it's mentioned in genealogies written by Addingtons.I did find a Dota immigrant in PA and know that many of the Germanic/Dutch immigrants migrated to the Yadkin area, so many that's a possibility for our Anna. The Dota name in Canada did become Dotey in some families, so I could imagine it being confused in NC.I also saw a Daniel Dowdy in Rowan Co. early on with possible descendants in TN with names of Daniel and Jeremiah. It will take a bit of time to get to know these families.
In regard to Jeremiah Dutton/Doty and Daniel Manning too, both of these guys were in the area early on.The 1770s brought many early settlers from the Yadkin. Many of these were with the Regulator movement and some involved in it were with the Jersey Settlement and a great amount were Baptists and Scots-Irish, as well as the mixed bloods who didn't like paying taxes either, especially for their wives.Who could blame them? Then, too, there were the Longhunters, some of whom come from long-time VA families and many of them had mixed blood families.I would add here that the Daniel Dowdy was a Regulator too.And then there were the Quakers and many of them Scots-Irish.
I'm looking forward to receiving the minutes of the church and perhaps will be able to get more information there.I'm going to look into accessing minutes from churches in the Yadkin area too.I really enjoy and appreciate all the information you've given me and hope we can continue working on this.Perhaps other researchers here will have some things to add or corrections or whatever...
