Hi Donalyn, Last question first.......Yes i have considered YDNA testing and plan on doing it hopefully early next year. I think it will be a great help esp if we can get the Doty/Doughty that have Ends in SC and NC to also do the testing...... Specifically : My Joseph Doughty Sr Line, Jeremiah Dutton/Doaty/Doty/Doughty Line, The Doty Line from Rowan - The one i know about being John Doty Sr and John Doty Jr/John Doaty,Burke...... And the David Doughty/Doty Line from Fairfield County SC who probably are from the David Doaty that had land next to Jeremiah Doaty in 1769 on the New River......... I really think that some of the folks are close kin........Maybe all...The full 25 markers YDNA Testing would answer this question and then researchers could get on the same page and get the line on back. Two other Lines i can think of that would be great to compare YDNA would be Azariah & John Doty of East TN. And the male line from Benjamin & Benajah Doty of NC.
I have looked a bit at the Dowdy/Dowty clan that were early in Old Orange County NC - the Southern part that became Chatham.......At this time anyway i tend to thank that the Doty of Rowan and all the Doty/Doughty that May have connection with my Joseph that i have looked at...do not seem to be connected with this Dowdy groop. However i sure would not pass up a chance to look at their YDNA.
I know you are right from looking at tons of information that people like Daniel Manning Doty and Jeremiah Doaty were on the New River early and many like them did not come down the so called great wagon road.... Many came from Rowan , some from Eastern VA and the flats of Maryland, and perhaps even up from SC. Several of the Mixed-Bloods in early Ashe County were Eastern Indian and sure there were Mixed-Bloods with the local tribes. With Long-Hunters in the area with mixed familys, also there were traders with the Indians.... Like the Grants, and Old Corneilus Dougherty -many others that had mixed familys. If i did not have so much information pointing toward the Doty of Rowan and/or Jeremiah Dutton/Doty as being kin to my Joseph Doughty i could certainly look much harder at Old Corneilus Dougherty....... I think he had several wifes, dif. tribes including eqropean..... and the fellow lived to be 116......... Like to see his YDNA markers ! Joe
