In the course of writing an essay about the history of a particular industrial building in Toronto, I wound up writing a short summary of the life of John Doty, the Toronto machinist & ferry operator, born in Lewiston, Niagara County, NY, July 1822, of Pharis and Rachel (Squares) Doty. (the lineage via Pharis traces up to Edward Doty on the Mayflower)
John Doty lived in Toronto and was a remarkable businessman and entrepreneur. Those of you researching John Doty or his descendants may find it of interest, so I thought I would post it here for consumption.
The specific portion of the essay relating to J Doty may be found here:
If anyone has any information relating to John Doty's Engine Works, constructed at the corner of Front and Bathurst in Toronto, please drop me a line. (if you have any corrections to suggest regarding J Doty's life, I welcome those too!)
