Re: Thomas Dougan, b 1719 Donegal Ireland
My husband is descended from the Thomas Dougan line that went to Pennsylvania and then to Randolph Co. NC, where his ggggrandfather was a colonel in the militia during the American Revolution (married Isabel Sharp). Yes, the family does have a Caribbean connection. From a family Bible record: "St. Kitts, West Indies. Thomas Dougan's Bible which was his sister's, Catherine Dougan's who departed this life on the Island of St. Christopher in the year A.D. 1728."
So we know the family was in St. Kitts for a few years, but we don't know how long. By 1737 Thomas Dougan was in Pennsylvania. They are Scots-Irish and we believe they came from Donegal.
The names of the children are very similar, but as our Thomas had a son Thomas in Pennsylvania, this is not a direct line. Rather, this could have been a brother's son, if related at all.
I have posted this line at ancestry.com under the tree name "Mertens Fray White Dougan."
