Dreyers from Als Denmark / Tromsø Norway
A few (4? 5?) years ago I had done some heavy family research and found a lot from my Norwegian sources. I had quite an extensive family tree. Then I got kids, finished my studies and started working and wham! I had no time for stuff like that anymore ;-)
I recently got interested in all this again so I thought I could start with a message on this forum and see if there are any takers around.
My Dreyer line descends from JÖRGEN CHRISTIAN Dreyer who moved from Als in Denmark to Tromsø in Norway with a relative (perhaps brother). There he founded what can almost be called a dynasty of wealthy Dreyers who were businessmen in all respects. They traded fur with the Russians and shipped them south, they had important offices in the city of Tromsø and they sent their children to expensive schools in Archangelsk and Oslo.
During the coming 150 years the Dreyers spread. In the late 1800 many emigrated to USA and only few stayed in Norway. I am from one of the branches that stayed in Norway although I do now live in Sweden (me being the first generation born in Sweden). My grandmother moved to Sweden due to second world war happenings.
So, if your family is originally from Tromsø, Norway or if you know that your family of Dreyers is full of Christians, Fredriks and perhaps Hans and Jörgens then we might be related.
Alternatively, if you know something for sure about the Dreyers in Als, Denmark around 1790 that would be of vital interest. I have long thought I should travel to the locations in Denmark and do the research myself to see if there is anything to see but you know how it is. Even though I live (relatively) nearby in Sweden it costs money and time to do something like that.
