AFrican ancestry amongst 'some' Driggers
I think the argument is that the first/early Driggers did look like they were descended from Africans because they were the early generations of offspring of an African slave and his white wife.As Jackie Davis points out, many of these early generations intermarried amongst each other and Native Americans who were willing to intermarry with mulattos to keep darker skinned blacks out.Obviously, mulattos marrying only Mulattos and Native Americans would eventually stamp out distinctive African physical/phenotypical features after a few generations.True,YOU may not know of any Driggers in 2001 who look African, but the discussion is about the early Driggers who were not far removed from this early African slave ancestor.
