Dear Cathy I am davids older brother, we spoke a couple of years ago we exchanged letters, my name is james drugan. my brother michael and myself wrote to you about the possibility of being related however it turned out there was no obvious connection although the first nameswe shared with the other drugans in glasgow suggested we are indeed related. Although i have not been able to follow up on this possiblility. i have managed to trace all our origins through the internet to to a distant ancestor, his name wasto drugan mac taighe who was the lord of meith from 827 to 929. meith was a sub kingdom or the kingdom of oriel which was set up in the 2nd century by 3 brothers called the collas. their kingdom replaced the ancient kingdom of ulster. the kingdom was centred in armagh which ties in with about only information my grandfather could say about the family. in addition i've found another ancestor he is simply refered to as o'drugan who died around about 1112 in armagh he is mentioned in the celebrated manuscript the "book of the four masters" and must have been someone of importance as he afforded a short eulogy where he is described as the paragon of wisdom and the leader in piety and devotion to the west of europe. i hope this is of some use to you if you want to know more about our ancestors please contact david, i am not sure how to set up a email address but hopefully i will soon be able to. Yours sincerely James & david.
