Henry attended the Red Creek Academy in Wolcott, NY in the years right before the start of the Civil War.He was studying to become a teacher. He was in a type of work co-op program -- six months of learning at the academy and six months spent teaching. He was teaching in Texas when the Civil War started. He was drafted into the Texas army, arrested for refusing to fight against the north, traded as a prisoner, and then drafted into the NY militia to fight in the Civil War.A. Henry fought with the Army of the Potomac. After the war, A. Henry moved to Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, PA and started a business as a nurseryman.
