Sarah,
I am the great-granddaughter of Charley Marcus Steelman and Minnie Bell Duffer, who married in Bowie County, TX in 1896.
Charley Marcus Steelman, son of Joseph Franklin Steelman and Amanda Jane Taylor, was born on July 17, l870, in TN.He and his family were listed on the 1870 census for Fisherville, Shelby County, TN.
Minnie Belle Duffer was born in 1879 in TN (according to the 1900 census record for Bowie County, TX).Her marriage to Charley Marcus Steelman produced three daughters:Myrtle May (my grandmother)in 1897, Lizzie Booker in 1900, and Mattie Bell in 1902.
According to my grandmother, Minnie Belle Duffer died a few days after giving birth to her youngest daughter in 1902.Minnie Belle had apparently bent over to lift up one of the children to see the baby, and she began to hemorrhage.
Minnie Belle Duffer was buried in Old Boston, Bowie County, TX in 1902--although we have never found her grave.
Charley Marcus Steelman died on September 9, 1925 in Bryan County, OK.He was buried in the Bennington Cemetery.
I have photographs of both Charley Marcus Steelman and Minnie Belle Duffer, as well as extensive information about their children and descendants.I would be happy to share this research with you.(This information is soon to be published in a book about THE STEELMAN FAMILY by Bobby E. Steelman.)
My family had no idea that Charley Marcus Steelman may have had a "first" family in TN.If you think that we are talking about the same man, I would welcome any information about your grandmother, Margaret Hamby.
Cordially,
Linda
