Re: Dumser Connection
If you family name is indeed "Dumser" and they were living in Manhattan, we would have to be connected.Dumser is a very unusal name. Based on my research...the only Dumser family in Manhattan was mine.Sebastian Dumser b. 1850 married Louisa Wahl in Manhattan in 1873.I do not believe I have all the names of his siblings, but this is what I have Mary b. 1841, Ava b. 1843, Marg't b. 1844, Eliza b. 1845, and Sarah b. 1847.The 1900 cenus indicates they had 11 children, 8 living. I do not have any of their marriage names. In the 1880 Federal Cenus, Sebastian and wife, Anna, erronously listed under name of "Dempsey".Probable cousin, John Dumser also listed, with wife Barbara, under name of "Dempsey" in same cenus and cenus indicates he was born in Ireland. The Dumsers were most definately German...not Irish. They were German Catholic. I am sure you have found that tons of errors were made in the spelling of names. Wahl has been spelled Wall, Dahl and Wawl. For your information, Sebastian's father, also Sebastian arrived from Bavaria, Germany about 1830s/1840s with wife Anna. Also living in Manhattan and probable brothers, George and Peter. I still haven't figured out whos who, but they lived in close proximity.I am trying to find the time to get into Manhattan to do some research.
If you send me an email through my aol address, I will email you my file.It contains all the information I have thus far i.e. cenus, NYC directories. Perhaps with both of us working on it, we might get somewhere.
Nice to meet you, Joe.In all the years I have been doing this have never had a "Dumser" connection.
Look forward to hearing from you.By the way, am not sure if they list private email addresses. In the event they do not, it is [email protected]
