William Dunbar b.1799 in KY son of Reuben was a CONFEDERATE SOLDIER???
ok follow me here my ancestor William Dunbar son of Reuben and Lettice Mason. Who married Elizabeth Nelson and who lived in Russell County KY i believe to have been a confederate Soldier. Is this a possiblity??? im not really sure about it but heres what i do know. A William Dunbar served in the 2nd Ky Cavalry and a a William Dunbar served in the 10th Kentucky Cavalry (Johnsons) also i was reading into the official records and a William Dunbar from Kentucky commanded 75 men in his own Guerrilla company in Overton County, Tenn he served with Champ Ferguson who was orginally a member of Bledsoe's Tennessee Cavalry a unit that fought at Mill Springs a battle fought only a mule's kick from William's front porch. Also many people of this area the cumberland mtns that is were guerillas and it would make sense. But it is my belief that William Dunbar and one or more of his sons and other relatives served attached themselves to Bledsoe's command much as Ferguson also a native of that part of kentucky did and then later served in either the 2nd Ky Woodward's or the 10th Kentucky Cav Johnson's. And then william raised his own company and was captain. Now for background info the William who served in Woodward's was discharged early 1863 and the William who served in the 10th his unit disbanded after the Great Raid of 1863. Now the Official Records state that Dunbar's men were the remnant of Morgan's command so the 10th Makes more sense. Also it is my belief that William was killed will in the service which explains his death and will bein probabted shortly after the war's conclusion.
