Re: ancestors of James Alfred Dunn, Pickles Gap, AR
I have some info on your Dunn family as I am from the "other Dunns" of Faulkner county, AR.My info came from Barbara Dunn of Tallahassee, FL,15-20 years ago, before computers.I show John Norfleet Dunn b. 1822, Alabama married Alpha A. Fullian b. 1827, AL.John died 4-4-1891 and is buried in Macedonia Cemetary at Pickles Gap (as are my Elisha Alex dunn and Elizabeth Shrum Dunn).I have John N. Dunn's parents as James N. Dunn and Elizabeth Fowler (I think I have a will or probate papers or something on them, I will search it out later).
I have James Aubrey Dunn b. Oct 16, 1845 Al, died 12-13-1923 Faulkner cty, AR., married Melissa Jane Swaim b.1854 in Swaim, Alabama. They married 12-23-1869 in Jamestown, ALIt looks like they married in Mississipi.Other children of John Norfleet and Alpha A. Dunn are:
Margaret A.E. b.1847, AL, Rhoda A. b. 1849 AL, married B.R. Price in Lee co., MS 4-1-1868, William Dunn b1852 AL, Mary F. dunn b.1854 AL, Alpha A. b.1856 AL, Amanda Caroline b.1856 AL, married J.M. McPherson in Lee co, MS 12-13-1873.Nancy L. b.1860 MS, Rahab A.b.1862 MS. John Lemuel Dunn b. aug, 1865 in Tupelo, MS, m. 5-4-1890 in Howard Cty, AR to Julia McMurrian b. June 1873 in Nashville, AR, and George W. b.1867 in MS.Looks like they stayed in MS from at least 1860 (when Nancy was born) to 1873 (when Amada Caroline married).
According to my notes, the family left on a wagon train in 1876 heading west. The childen I have noted that went with them are James A, Margaret A.E., Amanada Caroline, John Lemuel, George W.
More notes on John N. Dunn b. 1822, l: he's John on So.Walker Co. census (12th dist #164) and John N. on deeds in Blount Co, AL.Decentands say sone of James this age was "norfleet" so apparently "John Norfleet".Married in Fayette or Walker co, apparently, not in Blount or Jefferson C. Marriage records. Moved to MS abt 1856-60.
I also have info on James Peter Dunn son of James N and Elizabeth Fowler Dunn if you want it.
I'm sure I have more info if I look for it, but let me know if you are interested in any of this and if you want, I will dig out all I have.Jo Dunn Sheppard
